Baoshan University is located in Baoshan, an ancient and beautiful city in western Yunnan Province, China. It is a comprehensive undergraduate university with a history dating back to the establishment of Yongchang Normal School in 1905. In April 1978, Baoshan Normal College was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In April 2009, it was upgraded to Baoshan University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2014, it was selected as one of the first "Border Universities" for basic capacity building in Yunnan Province. In 2015, it was selected as one of the ten "Local University Transformation and Development Pilot Reform Schools" in Yunnan Province. In 2017, the school was selected as one of the first six "Applied Talent Training Demonstration Universities" in Yunnan Province. In 2017, it was approved as the "Chinese Education Base" in Yunnan Province. In 2018, it passed the qualification evaluation of undergraduate teaching work in ordinary higher education institutions by the Ministry of Education. In 2021, it was approved to be a master's degree granting unit and degree authorization point in Yunnan Province for project construction. In 2022, it was approved to be a research base for strengthening the awareness of the Chinese national community in Yunnan Province and a demonstration unit for ethnic unity and progress education in Yunnan Province.
The school is rooted in Baoshan, based in Yunnan, serving the border areas, and radiating to South Asia and Southeast Asia; Adhering to the school motto of "virtue, learning, dedication, and practice", with undergraduate education as the main focus, we actively develop professional graduate education, and focus on cultivating five professional groups: "basic education in border areas, plateau characteristic biological resources, border tourism culture, grassroots social governance in border areas, and data information technology" to serve talent cultivation in ethnic minority areas in border areas. There are currently 13303 full-time students and 49 undergraduate majors in 12 secondary colleges, covering 9 disciplines including literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, law, management, education, and art. There are characteristic disciplines such as Biology, Education, and Art, as well as characteristic brand majors such as Preschool Education, Arts and Crafts, Chinese Language and Literature, Jewelry Design and Technology, and Civil Engineering. One national level and nine provincial-level first-class undergraduate major construction sites have been approved; There are 680 faculty teacher staffs, 243 teachers with senior professional titles, and 51 full-time teachers with doctoral degrees, with 89 currently pursuing doctoral degrees.
The school actively carries out foreign exchanges and cooperation, seizes the major opportunity of the "the Belt and Road" construction, actively participates in the construction practice of "facing South Asia, Southeast Asia and West Yunnan radiation center", focuses on recruiting and cultivating students from Myanmar, Bangladesh, India, Thailand and other South and Southeast Asian countries, and cultivates the international vision and global competence of foreign students in China. Up to now, several international students have successfully graduated, they have gradually become the backbone of their professional field by applying their professional knowledge and skills in practical work; Expanding international educational space, we have established educational exchange and cooperation relationships with Mingzhi University in South Korea, City University of Birmingham in the UK, as well as multiple universities in India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Myanmar and other countries.
